As graduates of KWASU, we encourage and expect you to volunteer and support your University. We provide opportunities to give back through participation in the classroom as mentors, speakers, panelists, on alumni boards/committees, and attending KWASU programs and events. We hope that you will in turn give back to your University – in the form of encouragement to current students, active participation in the Alumni Community, referring students to our programs, and/or making financial contributions to KWASU. These opportunities promote networking on multiple levels – personal, professional, educational and social.

A BRIEF ON THE ALUMNI RELATIONS OFFICE

Introduction

A crucial part of the University business is selling memories and the Alumni Relations Office is at the core of it. The more memories we sell, the more we enrich students’ experiences. More importantly, we establish strong connections and relationships. A student with rich and memorable experiences will give back to his/her alma mater with pleasure.

The University is a life changing experience; students from various family backgrounds get together in one community and eventually begin to fuse together, with common thoughts, hopes and aspirations. With time, these students from different socio-cultural and religious backgrounds experience new developments which, of course, inform who they become.

As today’s university students become the ALUMNI/ALUMNAE of tomorrow, it is wise to enrich students’ experiences from admission to graduation. The alumni of universities across the world have proven to be one of the most enduring resources a University can tap into to enhance positively the experiences of students from the very beginning. With the young age of the University, it needs support from its alumni/alumnae,

The Alumni Relations Office was established in 2013 and took off in the same year with the first convocation. During the take-off of the office, a document titled ‘Alumni Relations Programmes’ and ‘Alumni Prop’ was prepared to guide the new office in its operations. At that time, graduating students were given a graduation package which included a welcome letter, alumni community membership benefit leaflet, alumni folder and Alumni branded pen. The graduating students also filled alumni registration form which was used to build the Alumni database. The data base is being updated annually during each convocation ceremony, and we hope to complement that with an Alumni Directory which is presently under processing. Social media pages were also created for regular engagement and interaction with the alumni and strengthening relationship with them.

Over the years however, the programmes of the Alumni Office have continued to be built around these initial activities, though there are greater plans to strengthen the office and bring up to national and international standard desired for every centres and units in the university. Thus, in 2014, the year following its establishment, some souvenirs were also produced by the Alumni Office. These includedthe Alumni leaflet and Alumni sticker. The following year, in 2015, a get-together for graduating students was organized with the aim to provide networking opportunities; to know what students’ plans were after graduation; to create a new, social experience and memories with the Alumni Team; to stimulate talks on interesting topics as it relates to Alumni relations in particular and KWASU in general; and to provide opportunity for the graduating Class of 2015 and other alumni to come together and interact with one another to celebrate their experiences, accomplishments and friendship at KWASU. In addition to these, Alumni graduation pack, comprising Alumni notebook, Alumni key-holder, Alumni membership benefit flier, Alumni sticker, and Alumni bags were distributed.

Furthermore, aside the annual events and convocation programmes, other alumni activities done include:

REGISTRATION

Graduating students are given Alumni Registration forms which they fill and return to the office. To ensure compliance, signing of the clearance by the Alumni office is consequent upon completing and submitting this form.
