The Centre for Community Development, Kwara State University, on Thursday, June 17, 2021 presented Participatory Action Research Grants to seven Principal Researchers at the Council Chamber of the institution.
Speaking during the presentation of the grants to the beneficiaries, the Deputy Coordinator of the Centre, Dr Fatai Akosile revealed that the Centre coordinates a major aspect of KWASU’s mandate, noting that the center has impacted various communities through its self-prompted community outreach, which involves the academic staff volunteering their services to benefit various communities.
Dr Akosile further disclosed that the centre’s Enhanced Students’ Community Outreach Mentorship has played a crucial role in the success of students.
Also, he stressed that the mentorship has equipped students with a veritable platform through which future drivers of emancipatory development are bred.
Speaking on some of the activities of the mentorship, Dr, Akosile said that it provides students with students’ annual projects certificate in community development courses, Public and Community Health, Field Practicums and annual students’ projects in the entrepreneurship mentorship course.
The Deputy Coordinator, therefore, stressed that the centre’s Participatory Action Research Program has provided a platform for partnership between researchers from the centre and the locales, especially in addressing real-world challenges.
Commending the scholars for their outstanding feats, the Vice chancellor, Professor Muhammed Akanbi SAN, ably represented by Professor Mashood Aliyu of the Faculty of Agriculture emphasised the readiness of the institution to support the Centre in achieving its mandate.
The erudite scholar noted that KWASU management is proud of the CCD and committed to improving the positive image of the Institution.
He stressed that CCD is an important component of the institution and the management would support the centre to bring the institution closer to the people.
Recipients of the Participatory Action Research Grant Award are: Dr. Moshood Shagaya, Mr. Arinze Favour Anyiam, Dr. John Omoniyi Alabi, Dr. Felicia Olooto, Dr. Lukman Adebayo-Oke Abdulrauf, Dr. Taibat Yusuf, and Professor David Apata.
The event was concluded with presentation of the symbolic cheques of the grants to the successful recipients.
