The Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of the Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Kpotum Baba Mohammed says KWASU is a University that has world class structures on its campus, some of which he stressed can compete favourably in any architectural competition anywhere in the world.
The Pro Chancellor of KWASU made this declaration at his first official visit to the Malete Campus of the Institution, on the 29th of June 2020. The official visit had the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Principal Officers and some internal members of the Governing Council in attendance. The Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Prof. Baba Mohammed was taken on a guided tour round facilities on campus.
While he acknowledged the role the Tertiary Education Fund (TetFund) played in the construction of some of the structures on the campus, the Chairman of the governing council commended the pioneers of the university for their foresight in attracting such funding to the institution.
“I give sincere kudos to the pioneers of the university for their foresight, steadfastness and especially for their resilience in the face of dwindling revenue to have put up such structures which can stand the test of time”, he said.
“To attract such funding must have taken some effort, and the judicious use to which they have put the funds shows the love they have for the system.”
Prof. Baba Mohammed said further that the visit had given him the opportunity to identify areas where improvements can be made to these structures to make them even more befitting.
Speaking on the future activities of the Council, the Chairman said the council will provide supportive and advisory roles especially in the area of general policy direction of the university.
While noting that the council will bring its collective clout to bear in bringing resources to KWASU, the Chairman assured the Vice Chancellor that the
Council will not be found wanting in its supervisory role in the utilisation of these resources.
“We will be on the same page with the Vice Chancellor in moving the university forward”.
Congratulating the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Mohammed Mustapha (SAN) on his recent appointment as the 2nd substantive Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Baba Mohammed urged the VC to encourage more cordial relationships with all stakeholders. This, he said will aid the smooth running of the university.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Mohammed Mustapha Akanbi stated that KWASU is indeed blessed to have a Pro Chancellor “vast in knowledge and experience”
He noted that with the combined expertise of the Pro Chancellor and the Chancellor, KWASU will very soon “move to the next level’.
Addressing the Management team present, the Vice Chancellor stressed that though the Chairman had given them a clean bill of health they should not rest on their oars because, according to him, “we don’t celebrate attempts what we celebrate is success” .
