KWASU Seeks Improved Revenue Through Tourism
Management of Kwara State University, Malete, in a move to shore up its internally generated revenue has proposed to harness the potentials in tourism sector within the state.
In furtherance of its economic proposition, the institution’s sub-committee on tourism initiative on Monday, January 25, 2021 visited the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr Kayode Alabi, to apprise him of the management’s resolution to tap into the tourist opportunities in the State.
In his opening speech, Chairman of the sub-committee, Professor Abduljeleel Ojuade said the purpose of the visit was to seek the intervention of Kwara State Government in transforming the Sobi Hill to a tourist attraction centre, which will in turn serve as revenue spinning venture for both the State and the institution.
Professor Ojuade further disclosed that such move would not only open up opportunities for the local and international tourists, but also bring about jobs and wealth creation in the state.
Being impressed by such economic plan, the Deputy Governor tasked the sub-committee to submit a workable proposal to the state government, giving assurance that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would welcome such transformative plan.
Mr. Alabi, however, urged the delegation to be forward-thinking in the area of wealth creation for the university, as many untapped economic ventures and opportunities are waiting to be explored.
Earlier, an Ilorin- based Tourist company, Angel Style World Travels and Tours Limited had sought to be the official partner of Kwara State University in the tourism sector.
According to the company’s Director, Hajiya Faridah Shagayah, she noted that the partnership became necessary in order to unearth the tourist prospects in Kwara State against the popular standpoint that Kwara State is not suited for tourism.
Hajiya Shagayah advanced that the partnership would equip students of Tourism and Hospitality Management with practical experience as well as provide job opportunities for the teeming population of unemployed youths in the State and Nigeria, by extension.
