The Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi has stated that KWASU will continue to build on the existing Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) which it has with Krusi Investments Ltd.
The Vice Chancellor made this statement when he played host to the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Krusi Investments Ltd., Ambassador AbdulFatai Yahaya Seriki in his office at Malete on the 22nd of June 2020.
In his welcome speech, Prof. Akanbi noted that the MoU which is based on staff and student training and internship in the areas of geology, mining and engineering, is a collaborative effort of the school and Krusi Investment to enhance research and entrepreneurship training.
The university helmsman stated futher that KWASU students have been putting this collaboration to good use with some of them getting internship and employment opportunities with the organisation.
While thanking Ambassador Yahaya Seriki for honouring him with the visit, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria described the Ambassador as a successful and brilliant entrepreneur and “one of the icons of our community”.
He stressed that Ambassador Seriki is a business man dedicated to giving back to his community with the belief that the narrative of progress in Kwara State must change under the able leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasak.
Prof. Akanbi emphasised that this renewed and more robust partnership with Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, will obviously change the narrative in KWASU’s bid at ensuring a solid and effective working relationship with industries.
The Vice Chancellor stressed that KWASU is blessed with professionals in different areas of specialisation, saying that the institution will always be willing to avail Krusi Investments of its expertise especially by providing technical support in relevant and needed areas.
Responding , Ambassador Yahaya Seriki reiterated his commitment to uplifting KWASU and Kwara State as a whole, stating that his dream is to see KWASU grow to be a major source of internally generated revenue for the state.
While saying that, he also emphasised the fact that Kwara State has the highest deposit of gold and other gem stones in Nigeria which, according to him, “nobody is tapping “.
He noted that his company which is poised to explore the mining opportunities in the country will provide invaluable fieldworks and practical experience to KWASU students, and this will give them an edge over students from other institutions who do not have such opportunities.
He said “every parent will want their children to come to KWASU if they want to study geology, geophysics, mining and related courses because the six months field experience which they will get at KWASU will give them an edge over those with only practical”.
To this end, the CEO urged the management team of KWASU, with all urgency, to come up with a proposal for a Mining and Geophysics laboratory.
He, pledged to establish a world class laboratory in the institution which will not only promote teaching and research but will be a source of revenue for the institution.
