The Vice- Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN has called for synergy among tertiary institutions in the state. Professor Akanbi made the call on Thursday, 27th of August 2020 at the MBA School Ilorin, when a delegation from the Faculty of Law Al–Hikmah University paid him a courtesy call.
Professor Akanbi said that universities in Kwara State should synergise their activities, either at institutional, faculty or at program level. He stressed the need for the institutions to encourage healthy rivalries that can attract collaboration between the various institutions. “We should also tap into opportunities that are available. I believe universities in Kwara should have a synergy. We can’t just sit down and do our things separately, I expect to see a lot of collaborative effort coming up among the faculties” he said.
The university don stated further that institutions should key into potentials of other institutions in its vicinity. He called for collaboration and cooperation among institutions, emphasising that institutions grow more if they work together to achieve common goals.
The Vice-Chancellor, stated that tertiary institution can share ideas, research and opportunities, noting that they can organise seminars and conferences together. He maintained that working together brings development and advancement, which positively influences the well-being of an institution and quality of service delivery. He stressed further that synergy allows for an institution to improve according to its targeted goals and objectives.
The Vice-Chancellor also donated 18 copies of the book, “The National Industrial Court of Nigeria Law, Practice and Procedures” by Professor Offornze D. Amucheazi, SAN, to the delegation.
Professor Shehu, Dean Faculty of Law Al-Hikma University who led the delegation from Al-Hikma Law Faculty expressed his delight for the warm reception by the Vice-Chancellor and stated that the reason for the visit was to felicitate with Professor Akanbi on his appointment as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of KWASU.
Professor Shehu congratulated Professor Akanbi on his appointment describing it as “well deserved”. He said Professor Akanbi is ” A senior colleague in the academia, an intellectual par excellence, a lecturer in the law profession and a remarkable gentleman.”
The Dean, reiterated his readiness and commitment to work with KWASU, and forge an everlasting relationship with the institution.
