The Vice-Chancellor Kwara State University, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN paid a
courtesy visit to his counterpart, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Age
Abdulkareem at his office in University of Ilorin on 30th June, 2020 as part of a build-up to a one day
retreat organised for members of the Governing Council and Principal Officers of KWASU.
The Vice-chancellor, accompanied by his management team, thanked the University management for
the warm reception accorded his team. He stated that the reason for his visit was to show his
appreciation to University of Ilorin for hosting KWASU and to formally inform the institution that one of
them has been appointed as a Vice-chancellor of Kwara State University.
Professor Akanbi noted that KWASU is a ‘junior’ to UniIlorin and he wishes to strengthen deep
collaboration and partnership with the institution especially in the areas of research, conferences and
sports. He further stressed that KWASU can benefit greatly from University of Ilorin and he intends to
leverage on all possible channels to achieve this feat.
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin was represented by the DVC academics, Professor Sylvia
Omonirume Malomo. She welcomed KWASU VC to University of Ilorin and congratulated him on his
appointment as the substantive Vice –Chancellor of the institution. She stressed that Kwara State
University will benefit from the wealth of experience that has won Professor Akanbi several
achievements. She reiterated that she is rest assured Professor Akanbi is going to move KWASU to
greater heights and wished him a successful tenure.
